Community Projects

Be A Girl Like Me! Inc.’s community projects were initiated to ensure that everyone in the community feels valued in the community. This is done by ensuring that our children and families are given the chance to have an education, to learn, and to receive opportunities just as well as everyone else. So far we have gotten the opportunity to partner with local organizations such as The Arc of Greater Columbus, Unity with Pam television show, and West Georgia Cancer Coalition to complete these projects. Take a look!

#ProjectProm Community Project

The #ProjectProm Community Project is our way of reaching out to our local teens and more specifically our senior girls. This project was initiated to help teens feel more confident as they prepare for their prom. This is done by giving our local girls a motivational speech, giving out prom kits full of accessories and essential items needed to prepare for prom, and books. These kits include lip gloss/lipstick, finger nail polish, jewelry, eye makeup, and other gear to help them prepare for the big day. We also attach inspirational cards to them that say, “Girl, you are beautiful, you got this, and you’re fabulous!” Lastly, we use this opportunity to distribute books to help them prepare for life after high school. Overall, this project is one that our founders can easily relate to.

Teacher Appreciation Project of 2016

Our 2016 Teacher Appreciation Project was our fun way of reaching out to local teachers and showing them that they are important and that we value them. Teachers could choose from tote bags, lotions, body wash, and other items to help them relax during their free time.

Civics Class thank you flyer

Civics Class with Pop Austin 2016

We had the honor of partnering with The Arc of Greater Columbus and Pop Austin to teach a civics class. The purpose of this class was to help local citizens who had either intellectual or developmental disabilities learn about American history and how they can vote. They learned about their local laws and rights as citizens to make their voices heard. As a result, two students registered and voted in the presidential election. Mobley Girl Toya was the first person in the city of Columbus to teach this civics class.

Be A Girl Like Me! Inc. 3rd Birthday Diamonds of Perseverance Project 2016

dop-2016-2017

This project was done in honor of Be A Girl Like Me! Inc.’s third birthday. We had the honor of presenting two breast cancer survivors with a basket on the Unity with Pam television show. The baskets consisted of a journal, water bottle, a candle, and other relaxing goodies to use after a hard day. These women were honored as our Diamonds of Perseverance because of the obstacles and hardships they faced as well as their community outreach. These ladies were chosen by the West Georgia Cancer Coalition who raise money to help cancer patients.

Christmas Projects

Our annual Christmas projects consist of making goodie bags filled with toys, notebooks, stickers, and leis for different toy drives for children in need. We use these opportunities to ensure that each child feels important, valued, and loved.
