Happy New Year from Be A Girl Like Me! Inc. We are so happy to write Be A Girl Like Me! Inc.’s first blog of the year.
Over the years, so many individuals and families have had different traditions during the holidays. Although New Year’s resolutions have vanished with the trends of the younger generations, they are part of the list of traditions when it comes to constructing goals for the new year. Setting goals are perfectly fine especially when starting a new chapter.
One thing we believe should change is the “New year new you” motto that so many people have become accustomed to. Yes, we are humans and as humans we go through ups and downs everyday. During life’s journey we always make mistakes, face obstacles, give up, dismantle valuable relationships, etc. Although these are everyday situations, we become accustomed to starting over again and again.
Well we would like to propose something new. What if we said to work on the old you instead? What if we told you, you rock? Well, we want you to know that. No matter what you’ve gone through last year, we want you to focus on improving yourself and learning from those experiences. Yes this still includes a fresh mindset with new habits in place, but we also want you to look back at your mistakes and the setbacks as motivation to keep going this year.
We often forget about future challenges and obstacles we may face in the future because we are too busy focusing on the clean page. Life is just like reading a book. How do you start a new chapter when you forget what the previous one was about? How do you understand the characters of a second edition when you have no clue what the first edition entailed of? Those details and background stories are what makes you understand and relate to the book. We want you to do the same thing.
Look back as you continue forward. Just as a railroad track continues, so should you. You have a beautiful story to tell. Never be a afraid to be proud of where you come from. We want you to embrace your roots, embrace your adversity, and convert it into strength to continue. God brought you to it and through it so tell the world about it!
Focus on your goal. Checking things off of your to do list is done by focusing on one thing at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself with the brutality of a Santa naughty or nice list. Take it slow. Yes things take time but you want to achieve your dreams. Graduating from college, starting business, and starting a family are all things that take time. Also, some goals may not be in your control. Remember God is in control. He gives us free will in addition to His will.
Get an accountability partner. We rely on each other to achieve our dreams. Talk out your feelings and encourage one another. Don’t rely on yourself. Remember the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child?” Well it takes a village to achieve a dream as well. Get a partner and run the race together!
Most of all you rock just the way you are. Your personality, smile, looks, and presence is awesome. We don’t want you to change that. Focus on improving for the better and move forward. We are right behind you!!!
